Finding Your Way

So how do you know what to do? Where to go? What to do with your life?

Jer 40:4
And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand ... behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

The good news - you can go wherever and do whatever you want.
The catch - you have to know what you want.

1Cor 6:12
All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient.

Yes, you can do some real damage to yourself, and others, even if what you are doing isn't "unlawful".

Job 38:1
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind...

Sometimes you get inspiration out of desperation.

1 Ki 19:11-13 (KJV)
And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Sometimes you get inspiration from quietness, solitude, and contemplation, where you can listen for a still, small voice in your heart without being distracted by all the noise in your mind.

Isa 30:21
...thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left

Sometimes you just have to roll the dice, and decide to take action before you know the full path. Even God can't steer a parked car...

Eph 6:13
and having done all, to stand

And sometimes, you just have to wait.

Phil 2:13
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure

If you are going to find God anywhere, it won't be in a book or a sermon or a blog. It will be inside you. It will be something you want, but not necessarily something obvious. And it will be a work in progress, because "everything is nothing stay" - everything changes.

Somewhere in your heart is what you really want, but you have to work through your feelings to find what you want the most, to find your pearl of great price. Feelings are powerful. Feelings are real. They just aren't always based in reality. Your feelings are based on your perceptions of reality, and there are many distorted lenses through which we view reality ("we see through a glass darkly"). To know what you really want, you must know what is real, and what is not. Only then will you have confidence in your feelings.

Hint 1: separating superstition from reality is what scientists do. You could learn a lot from a scientist.

Hint 2: Learn the difference between disappointment and regret, and choose the path of least regret.
